Shielding ground mat BU280 against electrosmog from wireless technologies (RF) and electric alternating fields (LF). Ground protection – the sixth side – is essential to achieve the maximum shielding performance of a canopy as a true Faraday cage.

To ensure full protection as part of a Faraday cage, shielding from below—the sixth side, the floor—is absolutely essential. This shielding floor mat serves exactly that purpose and complements our existing floor mat made from STEEL TWIN shielding fabric. It consists of three layers of soft fleece, bonded with a diffusion-open, micro-perforated aluminum foil.
The base material U230 is used here for the first time specifically for canopies. It offers an outstanding shielding attenuation of 111 dB, is ultra-thin with a thickness of only 0,45 mm, cost-effective, and extremely versatile in application.

The three sheets are laid with the aluminum side facing down, overlapping under the canopy, and fixed in place using floor adhesive tape to prevent shifting.
After installation, you can apply a floor covering of your choice to protect the material.

BU280 cannot be washed. However, careful vacuuming is possible.
Shielding performance of the floor mat
This product shields high-frequency electromagnetic fields (RF). Unless otherwise specified, the listed dB values refer to a frequency of 1 GHz. Measurements are based on ASTM D4935-10 or IEEE Std 299-2006 standards, covering a range from 10 MHz to 40 GHz.

Shielding floor mat BU280 | Grounding of low-frequency electric fields
The sheets of the shielding floor mat can generally be grounded. For this purpose, our GCS and GCM grounding plates (with limitations) are suitable. If the goal is to maximize the reduction of low-frequency electrical currents, grounding is technically possible.
However, recent insights from extensive testing in laboratories and real-world applications have shown that grounding the BU280 is no longer technically necessary. Even without grounding, this shielding floor mat effectively reduces existing low-frequency electric fields, so that only minimal residual fields remain. These are usually far too weak to reach the sleeping area above the mattress.
While our recommendation is “no grounding required”, we still advise that the final decision should be based on an on-site LF measurement to determine whether grounding is needed in your specific environment.
HowTo for the application of the floor mat in practice
SITUATION WIFI FROM NEIGHBOUR
A shielding underlay can also make sense without a canopy. However, in such a case, a before and after measurement is absolutely necessary using an HF measuring device (and under no circumstances with a smartphone!). This floor mat can be helpful if the electrosmog load comes from only one direction – i.e. the EMF radiation is directed. For example, if the neighbor lives under your own apartment and the WLAN router, LTE Cube or smartphone is directly under your own bedroom, your own bed can be placed on our floor mat to reduce EMF exposure.
The radio radiation hitting the floor underlay from below is thus reflected back to the neighbor and attenuated. The result is a reduction in one’s own EMF radiation, an increase in radio electrosmog for this neighbor and also an increase in the WLAN coverage quality for this neighbor (could be a source of joy!). If the floor underlay is grounded, there is another additional effect. The reduction of the electrical alternating fields NF through the lighting technology of this neighbor on his ceiling in this “radiant” room. The range of an alternating electrical field from electric cables is up to 2 meters – this also applies to the electric cables laid in the ceiling of the neighbor to the ceiling lamp (their ceiling is also your own floor).
